On October 26, 2023, the Louisiana House Committee on Education conducted an oversight hearing to review a policy approved by the Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) establishing an appeals process for qualifying high school seniors who do not meet the state’s LEAP test scoring requirement for graduation. By a vote of 8-3, the committee issued an unfavorable oversight review on the policy.

On November 1, 2023, Governor John Bel Edwards disapproved the committee's unfavorable review, allowing BESE to submit the policy to the Louisiana Register for final adoption as rule.

More information about the appeals process is available in the original June 14, 2023 BESE news release here: https://bese.louisiana.gov/about-bese/bese-news/2023/06/14/bese-introduces-appeals-process-for-state-s-leap-scoring-graduation-requirement.
