BESE Celebrates Continued Academic Improvement as Louisiana Marks Fourth Straight Year of Rising School Performance Scores
BATON ROUGE, LA – The Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) today acknowledged the release of statewide School and District Performance Scores for the 2024–2025 academic year and commended the sustained academic progress taking place across Louisiana. The new results reflect the fourth straight year of statewide improvement, underscoring the commitment of educators, families, and students to strengthening academic achievement.
Louisiana’s statewide performance score rose to 80.9, the highest level recorded under the current accountability structure and more than five points higher than in 2021. Results improved or remained steady across multiple academic indicators. Additionally, 44% of elementary and middle schools earned an A or B, and 70% of high schools earned an A or B. Complete scores can be found at, School and District Performance Scores.
“Louisiana’s students continue to demonstrate what they can accomplish when expectations remain high and the right supports are in place,” said Board President Mr. Ronnie Morris. “These results reflect the dedication found in classrooms across our state. As BESE leads the transition to a more transparent and rigorous accountability system, we will continue working to ensure every student is positioned for long-term success. Our progress is also strengthened by the alignment of education policy with Louisiana’s workforce needs, supported by the collective efforts of educators, the Legislature, and business and industry leaders who are unified in preparing students for the jobs of today and the opportunities of tomorrow.”
Transitioning to a Modern Accountability Model
The 2024–2025 results represent the final set of scores calculated using the current accountability formula. Louisiana will transition next year to Grow. Achieve. Thrive., an updated system designed to provide clearer information to families and more accurately reflect student readiness for college, careers, and military service.
Under the new system, schools will be evaluated based on:
- Growth: Academic progress made by students each year
- Achievement: Student proficiency in core academic subjects
- Readiness: Whether students graduate on time equipped for postsecondary opportunities
The first official results using Grow. Achieve. Thrive. will be released in 2026.
Early Childhood Programs Continue Upward Trend
Louisiana’s Early Childhood Performance Profiles also show continued progress. The statewide rating increased to 5.54, with more than 95% of sites rated Proficient or higher. All observation domains improved, including significant gains in early language support for children birth to age two.
