BATON ROUGE, La. — The Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) congratulates Board Member Sandy Holloway on her appointment by Governor Jeff Landry to serve as Chair of the Louisiana Special School District (SSD) Board of Directors.
The Louisiana Special School District, established by the Louisiana Legislature, provides specialized educational services and support for students who are deaf, hard of hearing, visually impaired, and students with exceptionalities enrolled in state-operated facilities (Juvenile Justice Centers, Correctional Facilities, Alternative Schools, and more). Through its programs, SSD works to ensure students receive individualized instruction and services that help them reach their full potential and prepare for future success.
As the BESE member representing District 3, Holloway has been a dedicated advocate for Louisiana students, families, and educators throughout her public service. Her appointment to lead the SSD Board of Directors reflects her longstanding commitment to expanding educational opportunities and improving outcomes for all learners.
“Ms. Holloway has been a tireless champion for students across Louisiana and a valued member of BESE,” said BESE President Simone Champagne. “Her leadership, experience, and passion for education make her exceptionally well-suited to guide the important work of the Special School District. We congratulate her on this appointment and look forward to the positive impact she will continue to make on behalf of Louisiana’s most vulnerable students.”
Holloway expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to serve in this new role.
“I am honored by Governor Landry’s appointment and grateful for the opportunity to serve as Chair of the Louisiana Special School District Board of Directors,” said Holloway. “The Louisiana Special School District provides life-changing educational services to students with unique needs, and I look forward to working alongside fellow board members, educators, families, and staff to ensure every student has access to the support, resources, and opportunities they need to succeed. Every child deserves the chance to reach their fullest potential, and I am committed to advancing that mission.”
